Offer Description

Water treatment is a priority health issue that scientists must address, as treatments in place to date fail to flush a wide span of high-concern biorecalcitrant organic pollutants, antibiotics in particular. Among high-prospect Advanced oxidation Processes (AOPs), H2O2-driven photo-CWPO catalysis can yield full mineralization of refractory compounds in water at high reaction rates under solar light. However, it still faces a limited perspective for technological deployment due to the necessary external use of costly, non-sustainable H2O2 as oxidant. In the frame of a mulmti-partner research project funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), the objective is to develop the concept of catalytic localism, and to design catalytic architectures that embark solar light active catalysts allowing in-situ H2O2 synthesis from H2O and O2 and further usage.

• Synthesis of heterogeneous catalysts active under solar light.
• Physico-chemical characterizations of heterogeneous catalysts, whether they are routine or advanced in nature.
• Carrying out catalytic activity tests for the synthesis of H2O2 from H2O and O2, as well as for the degradation and mineralization of different emerging organic contaminants.
• Valorization of scientific results
• Management of a chemistry laboratory.
• Scientific supervision
• Ability to write scientifics articles

The researcher will be recruited by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and assigned to the Photocatalysis and Photoconversion team at ICPEES (Institute of Chemistry and Processes for Energy, Environment and Health – UMR CNRS 7515, https://icpees.unistra.fr/en/welcome-to-icpees/ ), located in the premises of the ECPM (European School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials) within the University of Strasbourg (” University of excellence” in chemistry), and will be placed under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Keller.

The researcher will work in collaboration with the Institute of Physical Chemistry (ICP) of Paris Saclay as well as the Frédérique Joliot Institute of Life Sciences at CEA Paris Saclay. The consortium brings together three complementary teams, with internationally recognized expertise in their fields, and who have built a long-term collaboration.

Eligibility criteria

– Master the main types of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), in particular photocatalysis and (photo)-Fenton type processes and their heterogeneous analogues, both from a fundamental knowledge point of view as experimental implementation for water treatment.
– Strong background and experience in AOPs
– Must have solid experience in the synthesis and characterization of heterogeneous catalysts.
– Independent work within the laboratory is mandatory.
– Team-work ability is necessary, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with external partners.
– English level C1/C2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Additional comments

Profile: The candidate (H/F) must have a PhD in chimie, materials or chemical engineering, with strong background and experience in photocatalysis and in (photo)Fenton-type catalysis.
