Offer DescriptionIRTA is currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Researcher for the specialized on vineyard to lead and carry out applied and finalist research, innovation and demonstration projects and technology transfer activities in the areas of plant material (cultivar and rootstocks), environmental conditions, plant (canopy management, pruning system, …), soil and cover crop management in a drought scenario in Mediterranean conditions. The researcher will develop his/her activities in a collaborative environment, interacting with teams including plant health, genomics and water use efficiency.

  • Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Lead research activities within the applied research line of Viticulture within the Fruit Production Program by ensuring the achievement of milestones of the research projects.
  • Lead and actively contribute fund rising through the preparation and submission of project proposals for public competitive calls and for contracts with the private sector, as well reporting process, such as writing progress and final reports of research activities.
  • Participate in the research activities established within the agreements with private companies.
  • To be involved in the transfer of knowledge and technologies to the private sector.
  • Participate in dissemination activities related with the research line.
  • Contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit in the Fruit Production Program within the Plant Production Area, fostering collaboration and integration activities within IRTA and other research institutions or universities.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Ph.D. in Plant Science with a BSc and MSc in Agronomy, Biology or related subject.
  • Scientific experience in applied research in viticulture, particularly in phenology, basic metabolic processes, photosynthesis, transpiration, respiration, water requirements, plant hydraulics, etc. in fruits, roots, leaves and/or canopy on Mediterranean agricultural soils.
  • At least 2 years postdoctoral experience in research institutions or in the R&D+I sector for the wine industry.
  • Scientific experience publishing in peer-review scientific journals.
  • Experience in interacting with the agricultural sector and the scientific community.
  • Experience in participation in competitive projects.
  • Experience in statistical analysis.
  • Sound computational skills with advanced user level of the Office package (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and data analysis software (SAS, R, Xlstat, JMP, other).
  • Full driving license for Europe and travelling availability.

Desirable requirements:

  • Applied research experience in other woody crops.
  • Experience as research project leader during at least 2 years.
  • Capacity of vineyard and wine industry concertation, technology transfer and fostering innovation added value.
  • Strong organization capacity and ability to learn and successfully work within multidisciplinary teams and experience to motivate research teams.
  • Mind-oriented to challenges and focus on results.
  • Capacity and skills to develop and encourage strong collaborative links with the national and international scientific community and the fruit industry sector (Catalan, Spanish and International).
  • Capacity to foresee, plan and write R+D projects, reports and technical documents.
