About usThe Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at UCL, one of the world’s leading universities. The Institute houses over 400 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into improved treatments for cancer patients.We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented research technician with exceptional organisational skill and experience working with human cells to join our lab at the University College London (UCL) Cancer Institute. The lab led by Dr. Kasper Fugger is focused on uncovering the cellular mechanisms that govern nucleotide metabolism and genome stability to prevent the formation of cancer. Our research has a strong translational focus and we explore new discoveries with a potential for improving chemo and radiation therapy. New insights into these cellular processes will provide new molecular targets for developing more effective cancer therapies that can overcome treatment resistance.The lab is part of the Cancer Research UK City of London Radiation Research Unit. The unit features an ambitious research programme for radiation oncology and radiation biology called RadNet (https://crukradnet.colcc.ac.uk). This unique interdisciplinary and collaborative network, bringing together researchers from four of the central London Cancer Research UK centres: University College London, King’s College London, Barts/Queen Mary University of London and the Francis Crick Institute will accelerate the development of advanced radiotherapy techniques, challenging the boundaries of this mainstay treatment through world-first exploratory projects.About the roleThe successful candidate will work alongside the other lab members and be involved in exciting new projects that investigates the molecular mechanisms of nucleotide metabolism and cancer therapies. The candidate will work with cell culturing and state-of-the-art technologies including genome-wide CRISPR screens, CRISPR genome editing, metabolomics as well as various cell and molecular biology assays. The candidate will also help with organising lab inventory and maintain databases.The technician will be supported by core facility specialist throughout the Cancer Institute.The position is funded by CRUK RadNet City of London until the end of February 2027 in the first instance, with a probationary period of 6 months.For further information on this job please contact Dr. Kasper Fugger [email protected]About youThe successful candidate will have extensive experience with mammalian cell culturing
and cloning, along with the ability to conduct and analyse experiments.
