Job description
Offer DescriptionPositionFull-time (100%) research logistician/engineer (fixed-term) in flow cytometry for the flow cytometry core facility of UNamur (Belgium)Work environmentThe Morph-Im (Morphology & Imaging) core facility ( ) is one of the nine technological platforms of Université de Namur and is dedicated to offer the state-of-the art in imaging technologies, both for life science and surface material applications. The platform gathers a wide variety of state-of-the-art instruments and expertise, such as electron and optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, histology and flow cytometry. Morph-Im includes now 3 flow cytometers (2 analysers and 1 cell sorter).Your missions
- Management of the users, computers and reagents
- Daily and annual maintenance
- Contacts with the flow cytometer companies
- Support to researchers/private companies for the culturing, sterile and non-sterile sorting and data analyses for punctual needs
- Training of researchers for the culturing, sterile and non-sterile sorting and data analyses for recurrent needs.
- Project Preparation: assistance with labelling (dissociation, fixation, blocking, permeabilization, dilution of antibodies…), discussions with the researchers/customers about their model, their research question, and controls, assistance in the theoretical design of complex multicolor panels (tandems, brightness, co-expression…).
- Analysis of samples with multiple labelling (gating strategy…).
- Technology monitoring (software, fluorochromes, sample preparation).
- You will be encouraged to seek funding from public agencies or private partners and provide flow cytometry-based solutions to external clients.
- Pipelines setup, guide design, collaboration with the user.
- You will be asked to develop a genome-edition core facility for mammalian cells by establishing adapted CrispR-Cas protocols combined with cell sorting in the frame of research projects conducted at UNamur and possibly in private companies.
Skills/Qualifications1) DiplomasYou hold:
- an engineer degree or a master degree in science or another relevant discipline,
- AND a doctoral thesis during which you developed strong expertise in flow cytometry and ideally in genome editing.
- N.B. : Candidates who have not yet obtained the academic degree of Doctor can apply only if they are about to defend their doctoral thesis (at the latest within 3 months following the appointment).
2) Professional experienceAt least 2-year professional experience in flow cytometry.3) Required SkillsYou have the following skills:
- Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of flow cytometery (analyzer and sorters), with expertise in designing complex flow cytometry-based experiments. The expertise of the candidate should be demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Mastery of labelling techniques for (1) studying eukaryotic and bacterial cellular processes such as the cell cycle (G1, S, G2-M), ploidy, cell viability, and apoptosis, and (2) performing phenotyping (immune cells, organoids, intracellular signaling, mitochondrial potential…).
- Good experience with FlowJo software is a plus (training users on FlowJo).
- Multitasking abilities, excellent sense of priorities and organization, autonomy. You will have to manage several projects simultaneously: support in flow cytometry (analysis and cell sorting) for several facility users/projects.
- Strong team spirit: you will work with other team members.
- Strong service spirit: you must appreciate to collaborate on the projects of other researchers.
- Excellent communication abilities: you must be proficient in English (oral and written).
Knowledge and skills in bold will be assessed during the recruitment process.4) Advantages
- Good practice of cell biology tools (cell culture, immunofluorescence…).
- Good practice of biochemistry/molecular biology tools (cloning, DNA and protein electrophoresis, Western blotting…).
- Practical knowledge/experience of CRISPR technology using transfection/transduction. The experience of the candidate should be demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
