The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. The 2024-29 GOS ICH strategy focuses on its five scientific programmes. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.About the role This post-doctoral position is designed to build capacity in Global child health services research and provide a dynamic, talented, and committed individual with the opportunity to lead implementation evaluation research across healthcare facilities in Malawi as part of the Neotree project.The post holder will be supported by Professor Michelle Heys and the Neotree team at UCL, funded by the Laerdal Foundation. Key duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • To oversee and lead the implementation evaluation research across Neotree sites in Malawi, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, in collaboration with the Neotree Charity
  • To support and inform evaluation research across Neotree sites in Zimbabwe
  • To contribute to new research and funding proposal development
  • To support analyses and write up of results for dissemination to funders and other key national and international stakeholders

The salary offered in this post is £42,099 – £46,732 per annum and is funded for 2 years in the first instance.About you The post holder should have a doctoral degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, including population health sciences, epidemiology, health informatics, etc. They should have a background in health or health services research, preferably in clinical research in low-resource contexts. They will have experience in implementation research or evaluation and mixed methods research skills (including data collection, analysis, experience writing up research findings and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
