This specialization in materials science forms the basis for special multilayer optical coatings for the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and X-ray (X-ray) wavelength range. World records have been achieved at XUV that enable the latest industrial developments, such as the optics for ASML’s EUV scanners with Carl Zeiss mirrors. The emphasis in the research is on fundamental and application-oriented studies of nanometer-thin films. The multidisciplinary program is strongly motivated by industrial, high-tech innovation. For this research, the XUV Optics group has a 500 m2 large, state-of-the-art laboratory with unique research possibilities. The group has about 35 employees.
