Vacancy terms: Full-time, or job share considered, fixed term contract until 31 December 2025Salary details: Grade 7 – £39,355 to £45,413 per annum, pro rata if part-timeHours per week: 37.5About the roleThis research is funded by the Leducq Foundation to study cholesterol transport in physiology and disease. The aim of this role is to study the structure of proteins and protein complexes that are involved in the transport of cholesterol from the plasma membrane to the endoplasmic reticulum.The Schwabe group is looking for a Research Associate with experience of using a wide range of biochemical and biophysical techniques, including the expression and purification of protein complexes from E. coli, expression and purification of large multi-protein protein complexes from mammalian cells, Cryo-EM, NMR and Crystallography.The group is part of the Leicester Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology (LISCB), one of five flagship research institutes recently established by the University of Leicester, UK. We have excellent access to state-of-the-art structural biology technologies including an in house Krios cryo-EM microscope equipped with Falcon 3EC and GATAN K3 detector as well as the Diamond and ESRF Synchrotrons.About youThe successful candidate will have a PhD in Structural Biology. This role requires experience of (i) the expression and purification of isotope-labelled mammalian proteins in E.coli for NMR spectroscopy; (ii) the expression and purification of mammalian proteins in E.coli for crystallisation with novel ligands and (iii) the expression and purification of mammalian membrane proteins for Cryo electron microscopy.You will have a proven track record in conducting high quality research, an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and experience of supervising undergraduate and MSc student projects.Additional informationInformal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor John Schwabe onApplications for job share will be considered.As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to professional development, this role will also be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members.
