This role is potentially sponsorable subject to candidates meeting the tradeable points criteriaPlaced on Thursday 20 June 2024Closing date Thursday 11 July 2024Interview date To be confirmedReference FM11838 ShareResearch Associate in Manufacturing Automation SystemsAbout the roleWe are seeking a Research Associate to join our exciting EPSRC funded Prosperity Partnership project that will develop new automated solutions for the manufacture of complex injectable medicines at scale. The project is multidisciplinary (Pharmacy, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering) running across the Faculties of Science and Engineering and Design.For this post, which will be led by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, we are seeking a dynamic individual to develop, design, make and manufacture automation solutions to support the manufacture of injectable medicines. This will consist of specifying and designing a robotic cell along with the design of transfer and dispensation mechanisms to ensure the right quantities of raw ingredients arrive at the right point without waste.This position is offered on a full time basis, fixed term until 31st July 2027.About youOur ideal candidate will:

  • Be confident pecifying and designing digital and mechanical systems for the automation solutions
  • Have experience in the use of robots
  • Be able to create fast prototypes for empirical testing
  • Be able to model different scenarios and be comfortable with a range of manufacturing techniques (machines, 3d printing etc)
  • Have an understanding of digital twins
  • Be capable of supporting development of mechatronics systems that will be required
