Role & Department OverviewThe Department of English Literature and Creative Writing are looking for one or two Research Assistants to support the ‘Crossing the Divide’ project, introducing resources for English and science lessons on the life and work of Sir Humphry Davy in secondary schools across the region.Preferred start date: 19th of May 2025Expected end date: 31th of July 2025Interview date: Monday 12th May 2025Weekly hours: 7 hours per week (TBC, determined by worker and line manager)Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campusJob DescriptionFollowing the development of teaching resources for use in English Literature and Science lessons based on the life and . The project team are looking for one or two Research Assistants to support the rollout of these resources in local schools. The role will include delivering teacher training workshops and teaching pupils to gauge the impact of the resources and lessons. This work will contribute to an Impact Case Study for REF 2029. The project will run until 31st July 2025Tasks will typically include:
- Making contact with schools and organising visits to or from the school
- Delivering online and in-person workshops for teachers and pupils in using the resources effectively
- Working with pupils to gauge the effectiveness of the resources, particularly around how they view the relationship between literature and science
- Collate case studies from teachers and pupils and support other forms of data collection
- Contribute to a report to be used as part of an Impact Case Study for REF 2029
Person SpecificationThe successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:Essential Skills and Attributes
- Available to complete this work between the start of the role and the end of the project on 31st July 2025
- Ability to travel to schools in the UK
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to confidently present and deliver information to a range of sources
- Experience of collecting, analysing and reporting on data
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
