These will all focus on The Conduit’s key thematic areas: climate and sustainability, economic empowerment, health and wellbeing, peace and security, and social and racial equity.Responsibilities and key duties

  • Maintain editorial standards in copy and digital output on a par with established national media outlets
  • Write and edit daily news stories and features for The Conduit’s Radical Realist newsletter
  • Actively seek out stories and develop contacts for editorial products
  • Edit and sub-edit the work of others to a high standard
  • Contribute ideas and insights on subjects related to The Conduit’s five thematic areas
  • Contribute and develop original concepts for Conduit editorial (including podcasts)
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in social media and digital journalism.
  • Contribute to the production of some marketing content
  • Monitor and manage editorial output calendar
  • Manage reporting via Hubspot
  • Lead subscription-building strategies
  • Support management of junior team members as the team expands
  • Develop podcast episode content and copy, including research, episode framings, summaries, scripts and briefings for guests, briefs for social media and other marketing copy
  • Develop podcast ways of working and workflow, including templates for all of the above
  • Co-ordinate with podcast hosts, guests, producers/editors, distributors, and other teams (mainly marketing)
  • Manage podcast recordings, including room bookings and ensuring that we have the right equipment, liaising with technicians and editors

Skills and experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience of writing for a national news site or trade publication
  • Detailed knowledge – and writing experience – of two or more of our key thematic areas: climate, the economy, health, security, social justice
  • Experience of producing podcasts
  • Experience of sub-editing the work of others to a high standard
  • Thorough research skills and high standards for accuracy
  • Experience writing for b2b and consumer audiences
  • Creative flair and ability to contribute to brainstorms
  • Proven track record of seeking out new stories
