Duration: Until the End of the Academic Year (with potential for a permanent role based on performance)Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Psychology Graduate to join an Ofsted-rated “Good” secondary school in Cheadle, Stockport, as a Teaching Assistant. This full-time position begins in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent role depending on performance. This opportunity is ideal for psychology graduates interested in gaining practical experience in an educational setting, particularly those considering a future career in educational psychology, teaching, or counseling.Role Overview: As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and emotional development of students. Your work will involve collaborating closely with teachers to support individual students and small groups, particularly those with special educational needs (SEN) or those facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Your background in psychology will be invaluable in understanding and addressing the diverse needs of students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support classroom teachers in delivering engaging lessons, with a focus on meeting the diverse needs of students.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, using your psychological knowledge to tailor interventions that address individual needs.
  • Work closely with SEN students, offering targeted support to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Assist in managing classroom behavior, using positive behavior management strategies to create a conducive learning environment.
  • Help to identify and implement strategies that support students’ emotional well-being and mental health, contributing to a positive school culture.
  • Support the development of students’ social and emotional skills, helping them build resilience and confidence.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and the school’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to create and implement individualized support plans for students.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and other staff on students’ progress, highlighting successes and areas for further development.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school activities to contribute to the school’s overall goals.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology, with a strong academic background.
  • A genuine interest in working with young people and supporting their educational and personal development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • An understanding of child development and the ability to apply psychological principles in an educational setting.
  • Patience, empathy, and a supportive approach to working with students who may have complex needs.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Previous experience working with young people, particularly in an educational or support role, is highly desirable.
