Overview
Location: York
Hours: 35 per week
Salary: £21,668
Every day TCV works across the UK to create healthier and happier communities for everyone – communities where our activities have a lasting impact on people’s health, prospects and outdoor places.
This position is contingent upon the availability of funding for the implementation of tree planting and maintenance projects spanning a period of five years. TCV York Conservation Centre has a rich history of almost four decades in undertaking environmental initiatives in the York and North Yorkshire region.
We are in search of an enthusiastic, well-organised, adaptable, and dedicated individual to join our team in this significant role. The selected candidate will collaborate with our existing staff in the execution of practical conservation projects, with a primary focus on tree planting and post-planting care, carried out on behalf of Humber Forests and other Community Forest Trusts.
In addition to planning and preparing contracted work, the post holder will also oversee a group of volunteers engaged in a diverse range of environmental projects, both urban and rural, throughout the year.
While the role is primarily on weekdays, there may be occasional weekend tasks, compensated with time off in lieu or potentially paid at an hourly rate.
This position involves a blend of office/administrative and field-based work.
Key responsibilities encompass planning and coordinating practical task schedules throughout the year, managing, supporting, and supervising volunteer teams, developing and organising weekly paid practical projects by collaborating with partners and land managers, formulating plans and quotes for clients, aiding Key Volunteers and Voluntary Officers, managing resources and equipment, and handling logistics, along with publicity and fundraising efforts.
The ideal candidate will experience in the environmental sector or a related field. They should be well-versed in delivering practical projects, including material procurement and other logistical aspects, and demonstrate a sound understanding of various conservation tasks, ranging from tree planting and woodland management to habitat conservation.
Our projects occasionally involve small-scale construction work, such as footpaths, fencing, and timber structures. Experience in leading groups of individuals, which may include vulnerable adults and those with learning difficulties is essential. Effective communication skills with individuals of varying abilities, including children, and personal attributes like resourcefulness and flexibility are also highly valued.
While it is advantageous to possess certifications for operating machinery and powered equipment relevant to the sector, it is not an absolute requirement.
Please note that the role will involve driving a TCV vehicle, and candidates must meet TCV driving requirements to ensure proper insurance coverage. A standard full UK Driving license is mandatory.
