The Project Manager will have the objective of ensuring all projects are delivered using a ‘best-practice’ Project Delivery Approach and are delivered within the agreed scope, time, cost and quality.

This role will be three-fold, firstly overseeing the portfolio of organisational projects, providing expert knowledge and support and monitoring progress and reporting on the project portfolio status. Secondly managing projects/programmes directly. Finally, the development, introduction and the organisation’s Project Delivery Approach.

The role is expected to provide strong leadership in a matrix environment to promote best practices in managing interrelated projects and programmes to ensure successful delivery. This role will also ensure project resources have the correct toolsets and processes in place and that all relevant staff are trained and equipped to deliver successfully.

Strong project or programme management and excellent organisational skills are fundamental, as is the ability to liaise with people at all levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities

Management

  • Contribute to organisational business and budget planning process.

  • Contribute to the management, operation and performance of the Organisation; to ensure it meets its targets and supports the delivery of organisational and strategic goals.

  • Proactively engage with Directors and senior managers to identify opportunities for business improvements.

  • Manage the day-to-day activities within the Implementation Team.

  • .Experience of Project Managing Solar PV, Energy Centre, other greenenergy solutions.

  • Manage the administration for project submissions and approvals through the agreed prioritisation and approval process, maintaining a pipeline of approved projects.

  • Ensures a clear and consistent approach is in place to manage project risk with alignment to the Organisation risk registers.

  • Collate qualitative and quantitative information on project performance for the preparation and production of project reports for internal management purposes.

  • Work closely with other internal business divisions (as well as internal and external project partners where appropriate) to devise, develop and deliver appropriate and proportionate systems to evaluate key activities at a project level.

  • Provide advice and support to the Implementation Team and project partners on how project evidence and information must be presented and reported.

  • Ensure that information recorded in both electronic and hard copy meets with internal and external audit standards.

Project Development

Support bid development teams to:

  • Write, review, approve relevant sections of proposals.

  • Attend bidder’s day, bid presentation meetings as required and assist in the preparation of presentation materials.

  • Review and approve capital budgets. In some cases this will require the preparation of capital budgets depending on the size and complexity of the project.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure detailed project, implementation or actions plans are created for the duration of each project as appropriate.

  • Ensure projects have requirements (including technical elements, scope and commercial terms) documented and agreed to ensure that project activity meets agreed project objectives.

  • Ensure monitoring of progress against all projects is timely and accurate and enables Directors, Senior Manager and all stakeholders have visibility and sufficient information to make the required decisions.

  • Run or attend (as appropriate) Project Boards or Steering Groups for each project in conjunction with the Project Managers of the individual projects.

  • Ensure risks, issues and dependencies are being recorded, monitored and proactively managed to minimise disruption to successful delivery.

  • Participate in project reviews and approvals using all current company systems.

  • Produce weekly and monthly reports on all projects being delivered or within the oversight of the Implementation Department which will include Project Status, cost, revenue and margin (actual and forecast) and forecast for completion of each project.

  • Deliver an effective and timely schedule of project communications liaising with Directors, Senior Manager and all stakeholders.

Project Delivery Approach

  • Devise, produce and implement new systems and processes to optimise more effective project management as required and within the framework of the organisations Project Delivery Approach.

  • Own the Implementation central repository of documentation and processes including the PM Quality Assurance systems.

  • Ensure standardised and relevant document templates are available from a central repository for project team members.

  • Facilitate sharing of best practices through informal communities of action, Implementation Team collaboration and/or formal training sessions to enable a consistent approach across all projects.

Financial and Commercial Benefits Realisation

  • Liaise closely with Senior Management and Directors to ensure accurate and robust budget monitoring against project plans.

  • Ensure a robust process of notification or escalation is in place to report on both underspend and potential overspend with the appropriate approvals sought for either situation.

  • Prepare, or support the team, to tender specifications for external work packages as delivery components of projects where appropriate.

  • Track and monitor cost/revenue and margin on the Portfolio of Projects against planned targets.

  • Ensure post project reviews are in place and include lessons learnt exercises which identify both positive and negative outcomes to be actioned.

Candidate Requirements

  • Significant experience at a senior level in Project Management role.

  • Recognised formal project management qualification (PMP/APMP or equivalent) is desirable.

  • Minimum degree qualified

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Project Management and Implementation function ; desirable in covering energy centres and associated utilities.

  • Commercially aware with experience of negotiating with equipment suppliers and installation contractors.

  • Developed project/programme management and planning skills and experience.

  • Ability to manage a range of projects types and complex business initiatives and change programmes/.

  • Ownership of the organisation’s Project Delivery Approach, its implementation, establishment and iteration.

  • Ability to and experience of providing input to organisational business and budget planning.

  • Good understanding of performance management frameworks and tools in the delivery of business objectives.

  • Team management experience with the ability to manage and motivate project teams.

  • Ability to juggle different projects/priorities and deliver high quality outcomes under pressure.

  • Capability to provide timely, accurate and relevant project and portfolio reporting as agreed.

  • Experience of resource planning against the prioritised portfolio of projects and ability to work with the project team and business to manage project resource needs.

  • Capability to track project benefits realisation and lessons learnt activities to feed into on-going improvements.

  • Able to focus on a clear goal in all actions.

  • Ability to monitor and report on project budgets across the portfolio.

  • Advanced IT skills in relation to Word, PowerPoint and Excel and MS Project or other project tools.

  • Responsible for mentoring and coaching the project teams to effectively implement the Project Delivery Approach.

  • Thought leader with a view to creating a viable Project Implementation service and supporting pragmatic delivery of projects.
