About the Opportunity
Are you good at spinning plates? It’s not something you see very often on TV these days, but figuratively, it is a very useful skill, one of which is vital if your goal is to keep nuclear power stations operating safely, contributing to the UK’s Net Zero carbon target, or to help prepare them for decommissioning.
The UK’s five operating stations deliver 16% of the UK’s power, and it takes a large team delivering 100’s of projects to enable these stations to continue generating as well as defuel the three stations that have ceased operation – and that’s a lot of plates.
And this is where you come in
If you’re familiar with project delivery, you’ll know that they have plenty of moving parts and complexity, which is why you’ll be working alongside our Subject Matter Experts, Operations Managers and with our Framework Service team too.
People are at the heart of everything we do
Centre to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations.
You’ll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client. Through your interactions, you’ll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions.
You’ll utilise your strong communication and engagement skills to achieve client, people and business outcomes, working with your team and peers that are based in different locations across the UK.
As well as focusing on the support to this framework, you’ll get involved in other aspects of our high-performing business. We’re continuously evolving and growing the business, so there’s plenty of opportunity to evolve and grow your skills and career too.
We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK.
This is a key role within our Project Management Resource team which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced project management professionals and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your project management, business development and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.
The role will see you working as part of a large client-led team at Gloucester Business Park, with occasional business travel to other UK sites/stations. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible based on project commitments and deliverables. Key responsibilities will be:
Managing multi-discipline projects throughout the full project lifecycle (gated process)
Responsible for setting the project execution strategy in agreement with the client Project Portfolio Manager
Managing a cross-functional integrated project team
Overseeing the approved budget, scope, change control, risk and opportunities across all designated projects
Monitoring and managing schedule progress and providing key stakeholders with regular updates
Preparation and presentation of monthly progress reports for governance review
Driving the delivery of the projects to ensure safe delivery, on time, and meeting business and technical quality requirements
Accountability to the client Project Portfolio Manager for successful delivery of all aspects of your assigned projects
Degree educated, ideally in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field
APM PMQ or equivalent and proficient in the use of project management tools
Demonstrable experience of managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ideally across a range of complex multi-discipline projects and environments, and management of an integrated project team
A good understanding and knowledge of engineering project management, design, procurement, safety case, construction and installation/commissioning management
Previous experience of estimating, cost control, planning and commercial awareness including the preparation of business cases and sanction/ funding papers
Strong communication, organisational and team-building skills
