Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA’s Major Programme 2, “Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection”. This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme’s objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

The Division of Human Health is organized into four Sections whose objectives are to enhance the capabilities of Member States to address needs related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems through the development and application of nuclear techniques within a framework of quality assurance.

Main Purpose

Under the supervision of the Divisional Director, the Project Implementation Officer serves as focal point for coordinating and implementing NAHU critical projects St Jude operations under the Rays of Hope Initiative, within the planned timelines and assigned budget. She/he contributes to the coordination and optimization of projects and processes within the Division and assists in analysis, review of various reports and correspondence, she/he monitors the allocated budgets, reports and provides analytical support on tasks implemented.

Role

Project Implementation Officer is (1) a team member, preparing, reviewing, and maintaining detailed work plans and schedules of project activities, developing and maintaining tools for tracking project resource allocation, monitoring the status of activities, and contributing to the preparation of project reports, consisting of comprehensive summaries of activities performed; 2) a coordinator providing input and support and developing expertise and knowledge to ensure successful project implementation; 3) a liaison with technical subject matter experts and other stakeholders fostering collaboration between departments/offices and external stakeholders.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• In close collaboration with the team, providing technical assistance to the Division on project development and delivery, identifying and implementing approaches and techniques to achieve project targets
• Creating a detailed project plan identifying and sequencing its activities and including a schedule that effectively allocates available resources
• Executing and coordinating implementation according to the project plan, documenting project activities and ensuring that all project information is appropriately filed and secured.
• Acting as focal point of contact for key external bodies as well as other IAEA stakeholders (such as TC, NACA, OLA). Preparing presentations for governing bodies like the CCRA and works with other departments on funding proposals. Acting as coordinator for working group activities
• Monitoring budgeted project expenditures in consultation with the AA and Sections ensuring that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality. Contributing to resource mobilization activities, proposing activities/projects requiring additional funding and identifying funding option
• Evaluating, consolidating and disseminating technical project information among project team members and counterparts, supporting the team in the implementation of technical project activities and the development of final reports
• Conducting analysis and proposing suggestion of solutions and recommendations for issues identified in the course of his/her work. Assessing progress towards the achievement of project results in line with quality management standards.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

• Bachelor’s Degree – Business Administrations, International Relations , Project Management or any other related field.
• Minimum of five years of working experience in project management area,
• Experience in coordinating programmatic activities related to education and training,

• Experience in drafting and consolidating briefing notes as well as reporting,

• Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $70212 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 39389*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks’ annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
