Job description

PositionThe role primarily involves leading the technical design and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based perception and robot navigation software. Additionally, the successful candidate will manage projects, engage with customers, and provide technical support for the Business Development Team.Key responsibilities include the development and deployment of advanced perception, localization, and navigation systems for ground, aerial, and marine robots. This position focuses on applications across terrestrial, space, maritime, and defence domains, contributing to the advancement of autonomous systems technology.The successful candidate will be part of the Robotics, Software & Intelligence (RSI) Team.The candidate will mainly report to the RSI Team Lead.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical activities in the Data Fusion Team
  • Support to Project Management and Business Development Teams
  • Analyse the projects requirements from use cases
  • Identify and analyse solutions from the State-of-the-Art in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning
  • Design, develop, test and tune software applied to perception, mapping, localisation, navigation and/or data fusion in general
  • Participate to the end-to-end implementation, testing, integration and optimisation of target robot architecture
  • Generate the technical documentation required all along the process.

Skills and Experience

  • A Masters or PhD in AI, Robotics, Computer Vision, Computer Science or relevant field
  • 3-5 years of demonstrable applied research or industrial experience in AI, perception and navigation for robots
  • 2-3 years of demonstrable project management skills
  • Very strong programming skills (C++, Python) on Linux environment and Git tools
  • Background in:
  • Computer vision, state estimation, sensor data fusion, mapping, path planning and trajectory control
  • AI and specifically Machine Learning – Deep Learning applied to perception
  • Experience with/in:
  • DL frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
  • Robotics Software development in ROS/ROS2
  • Strength to cope with schedules and deadlines
  • Fast learner and ability to adopt new technologies
  • Ability to work independently with a good sense of responsibility and results driven
  • Available to be involved and support off-site activities in robotics demonstrations
  • Excellent English, both spoken and written with good skills in technical documentation delivery.

Considered as Assets

  • Agile methodology such as Scrum using tools such as JIRA
  • Experience with:
  • Desiginig software and system architecture
  • Generating relevant data sets
  • Building and maintaining CI pipelines using gitlab
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of:
  • Integrating with robots
  • Simulators or simulation frameworks (IssacSim, Gazebo..)
  • RTOS and/or GPU level programming
  • Multi-robot cooperative navigation
  • Writing proposals for EC/ESA or commercial contracts
