, Department of Molecular Medicine (IMM), SDU, invites applications for a full-time professor position in biomedical innovation. We seek candidates with research experience and leadership abilities that complement existing focus arears of the unit. At IMM, the professor will be responsible for initiating, supervising, and publishing research and to be the daily leader of a research group focusing on developing antibody-based diagnostics and therapeutics leading to innovation.Research profile and tasksThe successful candidate will be responsible for developing translational research programs where emphasis is placed on the ability to foster interaction between basic laboratory research and clinical application with ties into innovation and spin-out ranging ideally from basic science approaches to designing and conducting early phase clinical trials. Applicants should have a research profile that fits research fields within inflammation of the unit (innate immune system, antibodies, commensal organisms), and the research should aim at clinical applications with a molecular approach.The profile will be expected to have a strong track record in design, discovery and development of “biologicals”, especially antibodies and antibody derivatives to be explored for use in therapy and diagnostics. The candidate must be able to bridge clinical findings and biochemical studies at the molecular level and identify and pursue clinical applications evolving from this bridging.This expertise in biomedical innovation should be available in terms of advice and assistance to other groups, when such possibilities arise from projects within University of Southern Denmark and University Hospitals in Odense (OUH) and the Region of Southern Denmark. In addition to comprehensive collaborations with the academic groups and the TTO unit at SDU/OUH, the candidate will be expected to have strong collaborative network with academia and industry in other regions in Denmark and internationally. Experience from industry and start-ups is thus encouraged.QualificationsThe successful candidate must hold an M.Sc. and PhD in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, pharmacology, biomedicine or medicine, and he/she should have strong record in research, entrepreneurship, pharma-industrial work and teaching of students in biomedicine and related fields. The candidate should have proven postdoctoral training, formal pedagogical training ( or equivalent), supervising experience, and proven significant research through publications. The candidate will be expected to attract major external funding and must be able to establish partnerships with biomedical industry. It will be expected that the curriculum of the candidate includes leadership roles within academia and/or the private pharmaceutical sector.Teaching commitmentsTeaching at a high academic level is viewed as a core competence necessary for the applicant to fulfill or develop, depending on entry level and prior qualifications. Teaching duties include development of courses including postgraduate courses. The successful applicant will hold course responsibility and will teach medical, biomedical and pharmacy students with special focus on pharmacology, drug discovery and development and she/he is be expected to mentor graduate and PhD students pursuing their Master’s degree and PhD
