The Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Professor in Applied Genomics as per 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. We seek candidates with experience in livestock genomics, plant genomics, or evolutionary genomics. The appointed applicant will conduct innovative research with an emphasis on translating genomic insights into practical breeding strategies that promote sustainable production and climate resilience and adaptation.Key Responsibilities

  • Research of high international quality, including publication in prestigious international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • Leverage advanced genomic technologies (e.g., next-generation sequencing, multi-omics approaches) to investigate the genetic architecture of complex traits.
  • Conduct innovative research in genomics, with a direct focus on sustainable agriculture, emphasizing the application of genomic data for breeding and climate change resilience and adaptation.
  • Investigate the role of rumen and gut microbiota in methane emissions and animal health, or study microbial communities in ecosystems such as soils to enhance sustainable farming practices.
  • Encourage and expand collaborations within QGG, as well as with external partners in academia and industry.

The professor will also be responsible for securing external funding, facilitating industry and societal collaborations, providing research-based consultancy to authorities, and teaching and supervising students at the Bachelor, Master, PhD levels, as well as mentoring early-career researchers.Your profile Applicants should have a PhD degree in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics or a closely related area. A qualified candidate will have an established pattern of notable research, documented through articles in peer-reviewed international journals. The candidate is expected to supervise a research group and conduct an active internationally recognized research program. The specific criteria for evaluating candidates at Aarhus University can be foundTo qualify for the position, it is essential to document experience in managing an active research group. In particular, the qualified candidate has the ability to (a) publish at an internationally high level, (b) attract substantial research funding from a broad pool of sources, and (c) supervise and advise people ranging from PhDs to postdoctoral associates and junior colleagues. Collaboration with other groups at the center is expected. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged, and collaboration with research groups in other departments at Aarhus University, at other universities, and with private industry is anticipated.
