The bachelor Graphic Design department is seeking a tutor for the Professional Practice Skills courseProfessional Practice Skills Tutor (0.1 FTE)Vacancy number: 24-046What will you do?The Professional Practice Skills course runs through the 4 years of study and equips students with essential knowledge and skills to successfully enter the professional design field.You will develop a course outline that covers a broad range of skills, including professional communication, CV building, biography writing, grant applications writing, networking skills, social media management, creating cost estimations, invoicing, keeping administration, applying tax regulations, knowledge about intellectual property and fair practices and effective promotion and acquisition of new assignments. Practical insight and guidance will be applied for portfolio development guidance, website creation and documentation of student work.You will facilitate visiting and exploring various design practices and related professional businesses and forms of entrepreneurship to articulate students own position. You will guide students before and during the required 3-month internship in their fourth year in a professional environment relevant to their interests. Your course will be taught in collaboration with a graphic designer and/or digital developer to provide guidance on profession-specific elements.Profile

  • Professional or entrepreneur with a strong background in managerial, organizational, and economic fields;
  • Preferably experienced in the cultural sector;
  • Familiar with Dutch labor laws, regulations, and tax frameworks to advise and guide students toward their professional careers;
  • Skilled in teaching students how to create and maintain professional financial administration to set up their practices or other business forms including acquisition of assignments and working on funding applications;
  • Knowledgeable about the constraints and regulations affecting the production of art and design work;
  • Affinity for Graphic Design and education;
  • Willingness to share an extensive professional network of national and international contacts organizations and institutions;
  • Educated to at least MA level, or BA level with a significant professional track record;
  • Effective at guiding student development, creating engaging programs, and delivering in-person tutorials or lectures;
  • Preferably based in the Netherlands and eligible to work in the Netherlands under an employment contract;
  • Able to collaborate closely and contribute to knowledge exchange within the Graphic Design department;
  • Motivated to participate in extracurricular activities, such as development of lecture series, excursions, student exhibitions, and other initiatives;
  • Teaching experience and the ability to create a clear consistent study framework and assess student progress constructively;
  • Preferably in possession of BKE (Basis Kwalificatie Examineren) or a similar teaching certificate;
  • Fluent in English and Dutch and comfortable engaging with diverse cultural and social backgrounds of an international student community;

About the programThe Graphic Design bachelor’s program prepares students to be adaptable, analytical designers in a digital world. It combines traditional skills with interactive design and coding, offering a well-rounded education. With a rich legacy in type design, the department also emphasizes a strong foundation in design history, philosophy, and research to deepen understanding of the field. Practical components like professional networking, portfolio building, and internships ensure readiness for the professional landscape. Graduates are prepared for diverse career paths in design studios, museums, NGOs, media, and software development, reflecting the broad opportunities available to graphic designers.What we offer youWe expect the contract to start on November 1, 2024, with classes starting at the end of November. The contract is for the academic year 24-25 until September 1, 2025. The position is classified as pay scale 11 from € 4,361.31 up to a maximum of € 6,114.87 gross per month based on fulltime position and depending on experience, under the Collective Agreement for Higher Professional Education (cao Hbo).
