Process Safety Specialist

Our lactic acid and derivatives plant In Spain, Montmeló (Barcelona), services all of our markets; Food, Biochemicals and Pharma. This site is labeled an Innovation Plant within Corbion, meaning that this is often the first location to produce new products and implement new technologies. You will be part of a knowledgeable, versatile and creative team.

Corbion is seeking a knowledgeable, pro-active Process Safety Specialist.  In this role, you will develop, manage and improve the manufacturing site’s Process Safety Management system, in collaboration with internal departments, and in consultation with Global EHS and Global Engineering when needed.

This position is based at our Montmélo site and reports to the Manager Environment, Health & Safety.

Responsibilities

-Will be part of the EHS Montmeló Team, reporting to the EHS Manager.
-Collaborate with internal departments to ensure Process Safety information is documented and current.
-Partner with Operations and Projects by facilitating process safety studies and acting as subject matter expert for process safety.
-Own and facilitate Process Risk management processes including PHA (HAZOP and LOPA) study and actions management and explosion prevention and protection (ATEX) studies and actions management.
-Ensure process changes are managed through a Management of Change (MOC) procedure by owning the MOC system and actively engaging departments to implement and apply the MOC system.
-Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance to manage Safety critical equipment (link between HAZOP study outcome and preventive maintenance and inspection plan).
-Introduce and oversee key process safety indicators (KPIs) and facilitate periodic review by site leadership.
-Classify process safety events (incidents and near misses), lead root cause analysis (RCA) and make sure learnings from RCA result in management system improvements to avoid recurrence.
-Manage compliance with internal and external process safety requirements, and loss prevention related audits and surveys.
 

Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, preferably chemical
-Proven success with process safety and risk management in chemical industry (hazardous processes).
-Experience facilitating safety studies (HAZOP, LOPA, Ex atmosphere (ATEX) risk assessment) and leading Root Cause Analysis.
-Working knowledge of different external process safety related standards (API, NFPA, ATEX).
