Job Description
Are you an ambitious and motivated Principal Transport Planner able to provide sound technical transport advice and looking to work on high-profile projects with some of the UK’s leading master developers? If the answer is yes, we are looking to enhance the Midlands team with an individual with a strong technical background who shares our enthusiasm to find optimal solutions to meet clients’ needs in bringing major development sites forward. Job SummaryYou will work within a large, collaborative team and be responsible for the delivery of a diverse range of transport projects. You will work with private and public sector clients across all sectors. You will provide technical advice throughout the development lifecycle, including inputs to masterplans, travel demand management strategies and concept / preliminary designs. You will also be responsible for overseeing the preparation of technical documents. Your varied workload will include the opportunity to work with:some of the UK’s leading master developers, including Urban & Civic, Oval Real Estate and Northants LLP on key development sites in Birmingham, Rugby, Wellingborough and Basingstoke. Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and HMP, assisting them in rationalising, repurposing and expanding their sites across the UK.Local Authorities and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) in the development and delivery of transport schemes to facilitate and support local development growth.
In this role, you will be expected to provide leadership, mentoring and technical advice. As such, you will need to have extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience of a full range of development planning skills. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven background in development-related transport analysis and assessment, with wider experience in project management and supervisory skills. We expect excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as experience in client-fronting roles and negotiation with highway authorities.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will:Provide support on technical, managerial and financial matters; Take a leading role in the delivery of technical advice to support the development of transport strategies; Supervise work carried out by others, ensuring that it is delivered to the appropriate technical standard, on programme and within budget:Support in the mentoring junior staff, developing their technical skills and supporting their professional development; Prepare scope and fee estimates and ensure projects are delivered in line with KPIs; Be a point of contact throughout the lifecycle of projects and build good relationships to encourage repeat business; and Represent the client and AECOM at meetings, and in negotiation with National Highways, Local Authorities and other regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
-
An excellent understanding and proven experience in the field of development planning and management;
-
Experience in the preparation of technical reports including development related Transport Assessments Travel Plans and Access Studies, with some wider experience in technical design and master planning;
-
Experience in the application and analysis of traffic survey data for model development; Extensive experience of industry-standard junction capacity assessment applications such as Junctions9 and LINSIG, preferably including experience of interpreting outputs from strategic modelling tools;

A proven record of dealing with clients, National Highways, Local Authorities and other regulatory bodies;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate and present confidently to a range of audiences;

Good presentation and technical writing skills with a sound working competence in the use of MS Office products (including Excel, Word and Powerpoint);

Experience of business development, managing client expectations and understanding and interpreting client briefs to scope and cost proposals;
-
A sound commercial awareness and an ability to demonstrate proven management techniques, including project and resource management; andAbility to work effectively in an unsupervised environment as well as to provide the lead and direction within a project team and to support with the mentoring of junior staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in an analytical subject such as Engineering, Geography, Planning, Mathematics, Economics or similar. Membership of a relevant professional institution for example, Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), Transport Planning Society (TPS), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) or Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
