University College Hospital (UCH) is a new state-of-the-art hospital in central London (http://www.uclh.nhs.uk/), with access to several imaging modalities, including MRI-PET and other functional imaging, and molecular pathological services. In 2012, the new £110 million UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre opened opposite the UCL Cancer Institute, the hub for cancer research and translation research. This is the UK’s most advanced out-patient cancer care facility. The UCL Cancer Institute has a total grant income over £100 million, houses over 350 scientists, and includes many clinician scientists among its 57 Group leaders. The Institute is an internationally recognised centre for cancer research, housing state-of-the-art core facilities funded by the CRUK-UCL Centre, including next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, proteomics, single-cell genomics, FACS, confocal microscopy and quantitative and digital PCR. UCL is an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and a Cancer Research UK Major Cancer Centre. UCL are also a key partner in the CRUK City of London Centre, a cancer biotherapeutics hub, funded by a £14m award from CRUK ( ). UCL is a member of the CRUK International Alliance for the Early Detection of Cancer (ACED, ).About the roleThe post-holder will be expected to develop Neuro-Oncology research at the UCL Cancer Institute, in conjunction with University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and have an international profile, positioning UCL/UCLH at the forefront in this area. The UCLH/UCL partnership has been awarded Biomedical Research Centre status by the National Institute for Health Research and cancer research is one of its four major themes.The post is fixed term for 18 monthsAbout youThe post-holder will be expected to have an established track record in securing high-impact peer reviewed publications and grant funding at an independent level. They will lead a neuro-oncology research group, and will have plans for future grant applications. There are opportunities to develop an educational programme, and to take part in the teaching and mentoring of graduate clinical and non-clinical scientists. This position will form an important part of the wider UCLH/UCL Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) portfolio, and the Cancer Research UK Centre at UCL.

The appointee will be a member of the UCL Cancer Institute, and will seek opportunities to establish collaborations with group leaders in the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
