The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the Prevention Coordination Specialist at an Air Force/Space Force installation. Responsibilities DUTY 1: Leads management, implementation and delivery of research-based activities related to primary prevention of Interpersonal and Self-Directed Violence (ISDV) with the intent to stimulate change in knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors in general and target populations. DUTY 2: Uses professional knowledge to lead installation prevention training team efforts to include all mandatory integrated prevention and resilience training as required by DoD, DAF, MAJCOM/Field Command and installation leadership. DUTY 3: Community Action Team member directly supporting execution of established initiatives and development of the installation Community Action Plan (CAP). DUTY 4: Develop and deliver effective primary prevention and resilience strategic communication and marketing that drives healthy and positive cultural norms leading to a resilient Total Force and families. DUTY 5: Accomplishes professional development and maintains technical proficiency. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, for 0101 series and Group Standard for Professional & Scientific Positions BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: Behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes Applying knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies as well as behavioral, social science and/or public health practices principles and theories relating to prevention and resilience. Providing knowledge of a wide range of delivery systems relating to prevention and resilience and the multiple uses of such systems. Using knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Providing in-depth knowledge of military culture, military family dynamics, and the unique challenges military families face. Working well in a team approach and effectively lead and chair committees, working groups, and teams. Communicating effectively, orally and in writing. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Comprehensive and professional knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies as well as behavioral, social science and/or public health practices principles and theories relating to prevention and resilience. 2. Thorough knowledge of a wide range of delivery systems relating to prevention and resilience and the multiple uses of such systems. 3. In-depth knowledge of DAF culture, military family dynamics, related professional fields, and a thorough knowledge of the DAF community and the unique challenges that DAF families face; or equivalent knowledge. 4. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. 5. Ability to effectively lead and chair committees, working groups, and teams. 6. Ability to work well with others in a team approach and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: 1. A bachelor’s degree or higher in a behavioral, social science, or related discipline appropriate to this position is preferred. 2. Knowledge and experience within primary prevention is highly desired. 3. Must obtain, maintain and renew credentialing as required by a credentialing board identified by the DoD and specified in policy. 4. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. 5. May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours. 6. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. 7. Position requires flexibility and adaptability to implement DAF’s frequent program and policy modifications, which are often quickly made in response to evolving environments, mission sets and risk/protective factors. 8. Given the sensitivity of the position, a criminal background check may need to be completed. 9. Incumbent must meet screening/suitability criteria listed in DoD and DAF guidance. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
