Press and Media Specialist (m/f/d)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Press and Media Engagement: Advances U.S. foreign policy objectives through Mission and visiting U.S. official media engagement at all levels while overseeing regular analysis of Austrian media trends and the impact of the Mission’s communications. Develops strong working relationships with Austrian and Austria-based media outlets.
- Strategic Planning: Recommends communications strategies to shape Austrian opinions of the United States and U.S. policy. Acts as the Mission’s lead strategist and advisor for public diplomacy engagement within the media sector and actively planning initiatives focusing on long-term policy priorities.
- Intra- and Interagency Coordination: Develops strong, collaborative press strategies and activities and coordinates media engagement Mission wide, , while advising Mission personnel on how to best promote U.S. policy positions to maximize accurate coverage.
- Managerial: Supervises one Press and Media Assistant position and is responsible for managing funding for press/media outreach activities.
- Administrative Functions: Prepares and tracks annual budgets for press and media-related activities, to ensure appropriate accountability measures are in place and that U.S. government branding requirements are observed.
Qualifications and competencies we seek:
- University degree or Austrian equivalent in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or a related field;
- At least 5 years of experience working in a media outlet, international organization, government, or the private sector;
- Experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or public affairs;
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience;
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills;
- Detailed knowledge of the Austrian political, economic, social and cultural policies and trends;
- Excellent written and oral communication;
- Skills in Microsoft Office, various reporting tools, editing software; and video sharing sites among others;
- Fluency in English and German.

- A gross salary starting at EUR 62,556/year (5,213/month) depending on experience level, plus 2 bonus payments (13th & 14th Gehalt). Higher pay may be discussed.
