Job Description Summary

The preliminary design cycles engineer is an exciting opportunity to invent the future of flight developing new propulsion system architectures cycles and technologies. The role is expected to execute activities relative to preliminary cycle design and evaluation of its performance. The Preliminary Design Engineer will join the Preliminary Design & Hybrid-electric team within the Advanced Technology Operations section.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Execute aerothermal cycle design for sizing of propulsion systems for concept and product applications, using engine performance modelling tools, such as NPSS and other numerical simulation software

• Develop architecture feasibility studies and design exploration studies to define system configuration and modules arrangement

• Define the preliminary sizing of turbomachinery modules and evaluate gas turbine configuration trades interfacing with different disciplines

• Develop powerplant cycles for novel, hybrid electric and next generation aircraft applications contributing to the creation of new models and methods to implement them

• Contribute to preliminary design activities for engine and aircraft integration studies

• Contribute to the system integration activities of engine systems and module components, working cross-functionally with Controls, Systems, Aero, thermal and Mechanical engineers to perform preliminary design studies

• Support internal and external customer data requests

• Ensure proper documentation of all work

Qualifications/Requirements

• Master Degree from an accredited University, aeronautical or mechanical preferred

• Experience on numerical methods for performance analysis and aerothermal cycles design for sizing of propulsion systems

• Experience on systems engineering and/or a variety of technical disciplines related to propulsion

• Understanding of whole engine architecture trades impact into final system performance and aircraft capabilities

• Experience with programming languages

• Familiarity with Research and Technology development processes

• Fluency in english and italian

• Work VISA, according to local regulation, is required
