About usThe Division of Biosciences is one of the world’s leading centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences, and one of the largest groupings of life scientists in the UK.The Division comprises four Research Departments: Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB), Genetics, Evolution and Environment (GEE), Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology (NPP) and Structural and Molecular Biology (SMB). We proudly hold a Silver Athena SWAN Award from Advance HE, recognising our work towards creating a fair and inclusive working environment for all our staff and students.About the roleWe are looking for motivated Postgraduate Teaching Assistants (PGTAs) for the 2024-2025 academic year, to be part of an enthusiastic and committed programme team in an international learning environment.Main duties of the post will vary significantly depending on the module and subject, but general examples include various support e.g. tutorial class teaching, lab practical preparation and demonstration, regular meetings with the course lecturer, provision of feedback to students, provision of weekly office hours, attendance reporting, coursework assessment and examination marking.PGTAs are expected to be able to commit, be present on their assigned campus during the terms for which teaching is allocated and during the examination period as required.The salary for this role in on an hourly paid basis on Grade 6.A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page.If you have any queries about the role, please contact Katrina Toner at [email protected].If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online or have any queries about the application process, please contact Biosciences staffing at [email protected].About youThe posts are suitable for students with degrees in biosciences-related subjects, and if possible a good knowledge of the subject matter of a particular module. Previous experience with teaching (particularly running undergraduate practicals/tutorials) is an advantage, however any other relevant training will be provided by the Division.As a PGTA, you will also gain access to a suite of developmental opportunities known as UCL Arena. Provision for PGTAs is delivered through and includes a mandatory introductory three hour Gateway workshop for all students who are assigned teaching for the first time.
