Offer DescriptionMain: The mission will focus on the development and implementation of experimental protocols in order to better understand the learning processes inherent in the learning by teaching method using social robots. The mission will also include collecting and analysing data using the protocols developed.Secondary: The person recruited will develop a teleoperation script for a social robot (e.g. Pepper or Nao) to interact with human participants during experiments and will contribute to the co-supervision of PhD students.The post-doctoral contract is part of the ‘Teach’aBot’ research project – laureate of the Call for Generic Projects 2024 (AAPG 2024) of the French National Research Agency (ANR). This international project in partnership with Tilburg University ( The Netherlands) aims to better understand the usefulness of teachable robots for human learning in an experimental educational paradigm known as ‘learning by teaching’. The project has the dual aim of testing the effectiveness of this paradigm using social robots and investigating the underlying cognitive, metacognitive and motivational learning processes. This project also opens up a collaborative avenue combining the approach of experimental psychology with that of social robotics, focusing respectively on the perception of robots by humans and the perception of humans by robots during learning situations. Within ‘Teach’aBot’, the person recruited will focus on the psychological aspect by investigating the learning processes underlying the use of the learning-by-teaching paradigm using social robots.At the crossroads of experimental psychology and integrative neuroscience, the Laboratoire de Psychologie Sociale et Cognitive (LAPSCO) is committed to studying the behaviour and cognitive processes involved in fundamental mental functions such as perception, attention, memory, language and temporality. Our research takes a perspective that extends from the brain basis of these processes to their social and cultural determinants, with major implications for education, health and industry. Located on the Carnot site of the University of Clermont Auvergne (right in the centre of Clermont-Ferrand), the LAPSCO brings together around a hundred staff working in 2 cross-disciplinary areas (’embodied cognition’ and ‘humanoid social robotics and cognition’), and 4 research teams:– Team 1: Cognition, Behaviour and Context
– Team 2: Social Behaviour and Collective Dynamics
– Team 3: Physiological and Psychosocial Stress, Well-being
– Team 4: Social and Cognitive EthologyTogether, we pursue an integrated vision of cognition and human behaviour, with a deep commitment to research and innovation. The successful candidate will be assigned to Team 1 and will work under the supervision of Johann Chevalère, (CNRS Junior Professor and DigEd Chairholder), Clément Bellertier, (Assistant Professor, UCA) Ladislav Moták (Assistant Professor, UCA), and Pascal Huguet (CNRS Research Director and Director of the LAPSCO). He or she will also interact with Murat Kirtay (Assistant Professor in Robotics, Tilburg University), as well as with the entire research team involved in the project, and will have access to the UMR’s entire infrastructure.
In order to provide optimum conditions for the study of cognition and human behaviour in the era of digital transition, the experiments will take place on the LAPSCO’s e3C (Behaviour-Brain-Cognition in the Era of Digital Transition) experimental platform, which covers an area of 500 m2 and is unique in France for its organic link with the Clermont-Ferrand Rectorate and its level of scientific equipment.

– Skills in psychology/cognitive science, with particular reference to learning processes (i.e., ‘Testing effect’, working and long-term memory, metacognitive regulation of learning).
– Programming (e.g., Python, Eprime, Matlab, Java). – Statistics (e.g., R, Python, SPSS)
