POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER (PostDoc_TREASURE)
Offer DescriptionCHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB
JOB DESCRIPTIONWe are looking for a person for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher, within the framework of the TREASURE Project, in order to contribute, develop and carry out the following objectives:1.- Identify the frequency and magnitude of droughts in past records, as well as in the projected future climate scenarios and contrast them with the resources available in each basin. This will strengthen the potential of groundwater as a resource less vulnerable to climate events, and the full reuse of reclaimed water will contribute to addressing water scarcity.2.- Determine water scarcity indicators for different types of droughts,3.- Integrate hydrological and environmental drought data into data-based models and explore AI methods. This contract is part of the project: Project PCI2024-153494 (Treasure); Funded by MCIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/EU and Cofunded by the European Union.KEY DUTIESThe specific concrete tasks and duties are:1) To study the occurrence and magnitude of drought from historical data and climate data predicted for the future on a scale reduced to the study areas and for different RCP scenarios, obtained from state agencies using appropriate statistical methods (WP2), with the aim of defining the hydrological/hydrogeological factors that control the water balance and the occurrence of droughts in a basin, and estimate the future occurrence of droughts by considering climate projections and the resulting amount of water resources available.2) Carry out a hydrological characterization of the hydrographic basins, integrating all available water resources, based on geological data, water balance, stream discharge series, changes in land use, groundwater levels and geochemicals; as well as planning the use of groundwater resources for all potential uses, especially agriculture, under previous and future scenarios: that is, considering climate change as a driver. In addition, data on water demand and volumes of available reclaimed water, its quality and strategic reuse methods (e.g. aquifer recharge managed in WP3). The resilience of each compartment under climate change stressors (WP2-3) will be determined.3) Development of a multi-criteria assessment model (MCA) and a dynamic suitability map for the reuse of reclaimed water using GIS, technical, socio-economic and environmental criteria, taking into account water availability and needs in drought scenarios (WP3).Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsResearch Field Environmental science Education Level PhD or equivalentSkills/QualificationsEXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLSMust have – RequiredResearch Field or Field of knowledge:Hydrology, environmental sciencesQualifications and Education Level:PhD in Environmental Sciences / Hydrology or related to this research field.Skills:1.Knowledge of the dynamics of hydrological / hydrogeological systems on a regional scale, capacity for calculation and hydrological modelling with codes based on the use of GIS and programming in R (including automatic data collection from different servers and their subsequent processing).2.Knowledge of sustainability criteria, integrating the exploitation of hydrological resources with ecological and environmental preservation, especially with reference to nutrients and in conditions of climate change.3.Ability to conduct territorial analysis using GIS and to design multi-criteria analysis models with the appropriate software.4.Experience in fieldwork and in the description and monitoring of hydrological systems.Required Languages:English, Catalan and SpanishRequired Experience:Academic research (PhD level), GIS projects, modeling experience, having published at least 5 papers in SCI journals, some of first autor, according to Scopus.DesirableCatalan fluency (written and spoken), as interviews from local stakeholders are foreseen.Languages CATALANLanguages SPANISHLanguages ENGLISHResearch Field Environmental scienceAdditional InformationBenefitsWorking conditions: Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations.
