Offer DescriptionThe postdoc will lead investigations into non-Brownian fluctuations in chemically reactive systems. A bibliographic study will be first carried out, then a model chemically reactive system will be conceived that respects the temporal- and force-resolution constraints of the instruments to be used. Once experiments on a wide range of chemical compositions have been accomplished, data analysis will be carried out to build a conceptual picture of non-Brownian fluctuations and confronted with model predictions that will be made by the PI’s collaborator. The postdoc will also lead the writing of scientific articles and present at international conferences.During this post-doc, we will focus on simplified model physical systems to experimentally investigate how a reactive environment can influence Brownian motion in two different ways. First, we use the cantilever of an atomic force microscope (AFM) as a model Brownian object in diverse chemically reactive environments, with or without a catalyst. Then, advection-diffusion coupling [1,2] observed in near-surface flows controlled with microfluidics -using total internal reflection fluorescence- will be leveraged as a means to amplify the modifications of diffusivity induced by identical reactive environments.[1] A. The production or degradation of chemical compounds is generally accompanied by an energy input and an energy output. The input is associated with energy barriers which once overcome -typically by thermal activation and often with the aid of a catalyst- give the output emission of heat for exothermic processes.
