Offer DescriptionIRTA is currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in Data Science, placing emphasis on entomology and ecology for mosquito borne diseases to join the . The candidate will work in the project “Development of facility access sites and methods for sensitive, easy-to-use, rapid and affordable West Nile virus early detection tools (WNED-X)” which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. We invite applications from ambitious candidates with relevant research experience and passion to conduct research and innovation activities mainly on West Nile virus transmission.

• Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the high scientific and technological impact project within the field of vector biology, ecology and WNV transmission in collaboration with the group of arboviruses and mosquito vectors.
• Contribute to the understanding of WNV transmission and vector ecology through field collected mosquito samples, mosquitoes from lab colonies and environmental data.

• Participate in lab and statistical analysis by conducting research work with mosquito samples.
• Execute scientific and technical tasks and taking part in the planning and execution of the planned studies to ensure the achievement of milestones of research projects.
• Supervise the technical personnel and students that will support the research project.
• Perform literature review, data collection and management, involving statistical analysis.
• Collaborate in positioning the Program as a group of excellence through regular peer-reviewed publications, contributions at national and international congresses.
• Contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit in the research line and in the Animal Health Program, fostering collaboration and integration activities.

Required qualifications and experience:

• PhD in Health Science and/or Data Science, specifically in Veterinary and/or Animal Health and/or Epidemiology, Biomedical or Biotechnological sciences, or (Bio) statistics.
• Knowledge of mosquito ecology, biology and statistics.
• Proven experience in research skills: literature review, experimental design and implementation, data analysis, and scientific article writing.
• Dissemination skills: presentation/communication skills, and technical writing.

Desirable requirements:

• Knowledge on vector (mosquito) biology and ecology.
• Statistical data analysis skills.

Experience in supervising BSc and MSc students.Languages: * Proficiency in English.

• Spanish and Catalan languages are valued.
