Job description

USP-CEU welcomes postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA-PF-24) or any other R2 reseach calls, such as: , or (Spanish Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation) or (Madrid Regional Goverment).Selected candidates will be provided with special assistance for proposal writing and development. Our University has been beneficiary of 7 MSCA PF since 2017, including one MSCA-PF with an evaluation of 100/100 in 2021.Hosting Research Group:Group (Neuropharmacology of addictions and degenerative disorders) carries out all the phases needed for the identification of new biomarkers and therapeutic targets in CNS disorders such as addictive disorders or neurodegenerative diseases. It also carries out preclinical validation of new compounds with therapeutic potential.A common mechanism in this type of pathologies is neuroinflammation, which may aggravate neurodegenerative processes. It is therefore of great interest to study the mechanisms that trigger and perpetuate neuroinflammation. This has led the group to discover new targets in neuroinflammation and to study their pharmacological modulation as a new therapeutic strategy in multiple diseases that involve neuroinflammatory processes.Currently, the lab develops two research lines: (1) the study of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s Disease and (2) the neuroimmune response to drugs of abuse and its contribution to neurotoxicity and addictive behaviors. The PI of NEUROFAN is (Orcid: 0000-0002-1578-3744) Dr. Herradón serves currently as Dean of the School of Pharmacy of University San Pablo CEU. In addition to Dr. Herradón, there are 6 researchers, permanent teaching/research staff, and up to 12 members, including postdocs, PhD students and technicians.Publications:1) Galán-Llario et al. Research Project Description:In the search for validation of new biomarkers and for the development of new drugs that could modulate inflammatory processes underlying a wide variety of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders and other diseases of the CNS, our strategy is to identify proteins with known regulatory functions in inflammation, whose levels of expression are upregulated in patients with the above mentioned diseases and/or animal models of those CNS disorders.A common path to follow is that once those proteins have been identified, they are validated and their modulatory role in Neuroinflammation elucidated in order to confirm their potential as pharmacological targets. Accordingly, targets are prioritized and subjected to a program of preclinical development of new drugs active on those targets. The group routinely uses a variety of techniques that cover all the areas of experimental pharmacology to test new compounds: From in vitro assays in cell cultures and organelles (binding, efficiency, etc.) to ex vivo functional tests (e.g. Organ bath, etc) and in vivo tests (behavior, tissue analysis, etc.). Thus, with this proposal, MSCA Fellow will have an opportunity to work with a wide variety of in vitro and in vivo assays including the use of genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) in several conditions of neuroinflammation. In summary, fellowship holders will advance current knowledge regarding key players in neuroinflammatory processes associated to different CNS pathologies including neurodegenerative disorders and neuropsychiatric diseases. They will be involved in the validation of new biomarkers and/or development of novel lead compounds for the treatment of these diseases. Keywords: Aging, neurodegeneration, Alzheimer, Addiction.Candidate experience and profile: PhD in neurosciences, pharmacological sciences or related fields.Application: An expression of interest shall be sent to . Your file should contain the following elements: * A short CV (Max. 2 pages).
  • A one-page research proposal
  • A short statement explaining why CEU would be the best host institution for your research.
  • Two letters of reference.

For MSCA-PF 24 call, at the deadline for the submission of proposals (11/09/2024) candidates shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain or more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline. Those files received before 15th of June will be considered for MSCA-PF 2024 call. Applications received after may be considered for other applications, after discussion with the candidate.Share this page
