The Department of Political Science at Aarhus University invites applications for a 2,25-year (27 months) full-time postdoctoral position. The postdoc will work on a research project financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project is entitled “Chairing the Council of the European Union” (EUCHAIR) and focuses on Denmark’s EU presidency in the second half of 2025.The project is headed by Professor Jens Blom-Hansen. Start date is 1 May 2025.EUCHAIR is a political-ethnographic study of the Danish EU presidency which involves field observations in the Danish Foreign Ministry and Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. The postdoc’s main responsibility is to prepare and conduct these field observations and to take a leading role in developing, designing, coordinating, and publishing subsequent research in high-impact journals. The postdoc is expected to work closely with Professor Jens Blom-Hansen but will also to some extent have opportunities to finish or pursue her/his own research projects.In addition to the outlined research tasks, the position entails teaching the equivalent of one course per year.Your qualificationsApplicants are expected to hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in political science, preferably with a focus on EU affairs. In addition, applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications:Demonstrated intimate knowledge of the EU political systemDemonstrated competence in and practical experience with political-ethnographic methodsFluency in the Danish languageWho we areWith around 130 academic staff members and 40 PhD students, the Department of Political Science is among Europe’s largest political science departments. The research at the department covers most political science disciplines including public administration and represents a variety of methodological approaches.
