USP-CEU welcomes early stage postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA-24) or any other R2 reseach calls, such as: (Spanish Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation) or (Madrid Regional Goverment).Selected candidates will be provided with special assistance for proposal writing and development. Our University has been beneficiary of 7 MSCA PF since 2017, including one MSCA-PF with an evaluation of 100/100 in 2021.Research Institute:The (RIDEE) is a research centre of – and a Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence. RIDEE has more than 20 years of experience in EU research, EU projects and teaching.We currently coordinate a Jean Monnet Network project EU-China: Comparative experiences and contributions to global governance in the fields of climate change, trade and competition (European Commission). The network includes the Institute of European Studies (Florence), Fudan University, Chinese Academy of Social Science, and others.RIDEE has an Extraordinary Jean Monnet Chair of European Institutions, held by Ex-Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Prof. Marcelino Oreja, and a current Jean Monnet Chair in Single Market & Competition Law in the Digital and Ecological Transition Era hold by Prof. Jerónimo Maillo.The director of RIDEE and supervisor, , is a Jean Monnet Chair “ad personam” in Law and European Cultural Identity. He is a Professor of International Public Law, European Law, and International Relations. His main research fields includes EU trade and investment agreements, EU-China relations, EU Competition policy and law, and EU Governance.Most recent publications and research projects:

: Comparative experiences and contributions to global governance in the fields of climate change, trade and competition (2017-2023) European Commission – ID 587904 * The European Union, a Great Commercial Power. New Generation Trade Agreements: An Opportunity for Spain? (2020-2021) Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain.Research Proposal:The research project will be based on analyzing the future of the commercial relations of the European Union and the translation of its objectives to practical reality, taking into consideration:

  • EU Trade Agreements. Mainly related to the “new generation” trade agreements signed by the European Union with third countries after 2009, when the Treaty of Lisbon came into force.
  • EU Investments. Focused on both its external and internal aspects. In other words, from the signing of possible investment agreements, such as the one planned with China, to the impact of foreign investments in some of the EU Member States, including the instruments adopted at the Community level to protect the internal market from distortions to free competition resulting from all this.
  • EU External Relations. Intensification of relations between the EU and third countries with special attention to those of its closest environment, especially within the framework of transatlantic relations, but also covering the role of the Union as a global actor in the different latitudes of the planet.
  • EU Competition Policy. Maximization in the development of a European trade policy open to trade with third countries, but vigilant in preserving its unity and avoiding fragmentation from the internal point of view.

Application profiles:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in the research field or a similar one.
  • English level B1-C1.
  • Knowledge of the research subject.
  • Candidates must hold a PhD at the call deadline (13/09/2023) and not more than 8 years of full-time research experience after the PhD.
  • Candidates must NOT have resided in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.
  • Although not an eligibility criterion, a good track record is recommended.
