Offer DescriptionThe candidate’s mission is to develop a multi-fidelity methodology to take advantage of LES calculation methodologies in order to calibrate RANS approaches and vice versa. This capability, called Dual Mesh Hybrid RANS-LES, relies on solvers capable of solving the RANS and LES equations simultaneously, on two different conformal grids adapted to each set of equations. It thus combines the advantages of the two approaches, typically the prediction of boundary layers in RANS, prediction of large scales and mixing in LES. The proposed work will consist of designing and implementing this multi-fidelity approach in the YALES2 solver, applying it to H2/air burners and evaluating its efficiency to accelerate calculations in the design exploration phase.The work schedule is as follows:
1. Development of a RANS Combustion Low Mach solver in the YALES2 platform on the basis of developments already carried out for the incompressible regime with several standard turbulent closures (k-epsilon, k-omega, k- SST…)
2. Validation of this solver on simple cases from the literature.
3. Coupling with the existing LES Combustion Low Mach (VDS) solver from YALES2. 4. Evaluation and comparison of the RANS approach alone with the Dual Mesh Hybrid RANS-LES approach on H2/air burnersThe framework of this work is a collaboration with SAFRAN TECH, the research and technology center of the SAFRAN group and the CORIA laboratory, UMR6614, in the H2TECH project.
