The Algorithms group at IT University of Copenhagen invites highly motivated persons for one funded full-time postdoc position in Algebraic Complexity Theory starting 1 September 2024 or soon thereafter. The position is for a duration of 12 months and is funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark (Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond DFF) grant led by Nutan Limaye.The IT University’s vision is to create and share knowledge that is profound and leads to groundbreaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity. The Computer Science Department seeks to conduct research and education that are both foundational and have impact on industry and society.Job Description
The main goal of this project is to make advances in understanding the power of algebraic formulas. This broad theme can be explored from several different perspectives. Our goal is to develop new combinations of known techniques and to innovate new methods to prove results aligned with this research theme. The postdoc candidate is expected to closely collaborate with the members of the project and present the work resulting from this project at workshops and conferences.Teaching of advanced courses is encouraged but not required. Travel funding is included with the position.Qualification
The applicant must hold or be close to completion of, a PhD-degree with proven research experience in Computer Science or Mathematics and with a strong publication record, for example, publications in top conferences such as STOC, FOCS, CCC, or similar, or in journals of a comparable quality.The Scientific Environment
The Algorithms group at ITU has a world-leading research environment, with a strong presence at top-tier conferences like STOC, FOCS, and SODA. This project will additionally benefit from our close ties with the Basic Algorithms Research Copenhagen (BARC) centre (barc.ku.dk) set up at Copenhagen University. We are also well-connected with researchers at the University of Southern Denmark, Aarhus University, and Lund University. Between the Copenhagen University and IT University of Copenhagen, we host many visitors every month, run a lot of seminars and talks. As a common goal, we aim to create fundamental breakthroughs in algorithms and complexity theory, using the power of mathematics.About the Computer Science Department
The ITU Computer Science Department conducts research in all aspects of computer science and data science, including algorithms, databases, government IT, machine learning, natural language processing, network science, optimization, programming languages, quantum computing, robotics, security, semantics, software engineering, software verification, type theory, and more, as well as a range of applications. The department has 55 permanent faculty, 65 PhDs and postdocs, as well as other staff. It is responsible for the IT University’s most technical education programs BSc Software Development, BSc Data Science, MSc Computer Science, MSc Data Science, and MSc Software Design.General information

The postdoc position is a full-time research position for a duration of 12 months.Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at Universities.Application
