Offer Description

The postdoc will develop numerical methods and approximate models to model metasurfaces composed of disordered monolayers of high-index resonant nanoparticles. The predictions will be validated by experiments.

This highly interdisciplinary project will allow you to gain valuable experience in the areas of optical metasurfaces. Your role will be to develop theoretical tools and approximate models to predict how light is scattered by large sets of randomly or ordered metaatoms. You will also be a key player in the design for specific applications and will participate in the characterization of manufactured samples, to test models or interpret experimental data.

The visual appearance of flat surfaces and curved objects is paramount in life and the technology of fine and applied arts. The work will take place within the framework of the ERC UNSEEN project (>2 M€) which aims to create nanostructured surfaces (or metasurfaces) which offer new visual appearances, never seen before in nature. The project began on September 1, 2023 in Bordeaux in a COS group led by Philippe Lalanne at the Digital Photonics and Nanosciences Laboratory (LP2N). It will last 5 years. It brings together skills in optical metasurfaces, complex media, rendering, structural color and nanofabrication.
