Job description

Job Description:You are passionate about working at the absolute forefront of technology? Here is the opportunity for you to fulfil your dreams and ambitions!Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) offers unique advantages for the distribution of secret keys between two parties for data encryption. Utilizing components similar to standard telecom components makes it an attractive solution for cost-effective and high-performance metropolitan applications. The technology exhibits strong parallels with coherent optical telecommunication. However, noise is absolutely crucial as it is attributed to an eavesdropper. Measurement-device-independent presents exciting challenges and opportunities by reducing assumptions on detectors, thereby increasing implementation security.Within this position you will advance continuous-variable measurement-device-independent QKD using photonic integrated chips developed by a collaborator. You will advance performance and security, e.g. by working with entangled states of light. Furthermore, you will perform implementations with deployed fiber. The position will be hosted by the Section of Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) at the Department of Physics of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are a dynamic, innovative, and diverse research team focused on all aspects of CV-QKD. Our team is passionate about advancing secure communication methods based on quantum physics and bringing quantum key distribution to the people. We have a wide range of academic and industry collaborations, e.g. as part of the EU Flagship on quantum technology and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure.Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will conduct experimental research in advanced continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution. You will:

  • advance the state-of-the-art of measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution systems based on coherent states by using photonic integrated circuits.
  • use entangled light sources to further increase implementation security.
  • test high-security applications of measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution in the field with deployed fiber.

You have a passion for continuous-variable quantum optics or coherent telecommunication systems, and you are intrigued by its application in continuous-variable quantum key distribution. You enjoy finding clever solutions to difficult problems and further you have the following qualifications:

  • Experimental experience with coherent telecommunication systems or continuous-variable quantum key distribution
  • Experience with python programming.
  • Experience with version control systems (git)
  • Experience with fiber optic setups and setups with photonic integrated chips.
  • You thrive by working in a diverse and multidisciplinary team of people.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation, and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years. You can read more about .Further information

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion, or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.DTU Physics is a modern department with an emphasis on strong professionalism. We want to be elitist in physics and we demand a lot of our employees and students. We focus on research, teaching, and innovation in areas with fundamental challenges and application potentials. We cover areas such as surface physics, materials science, computer-based material calculations, fluid dynamics, biophysics, plasma physics, and quantum physics, and we encourage collaboration between the areas. Applications range from sustainable energy and the materials of the future to quantum technology.Technology for people
DTU develops technology for people. With our international elite research and study programmes, we are helping to create a better world and to solve the global challenges formulated in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU in 1829 with a clear mission to develop and create value using science and engineering to benefit society. That mission lives on today. DTU has 13,500 students and 6,000 employees. We work in an international atmosphere and have an inclusive, evolving, and informal working environment. DTU has campuses in all parts of Denmark and in Greenland, and we collaborate with the best universities around the world.
