Job description

The newly established Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is building a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge program in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, the ambition is to build a mission-driven full-stack approach which will involve exciting innovations at every level, from the quantum processor to the quantum-classical interface all the way to quantum algorithms and applications. The vision of the programme is to enable the development of fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve important problems in the life-sciences.The Project
State-of-the-art quantum devices will need state-of-the-art fabrication tools. This challenging and interdisciplinary project will combine the fields of nanofabrication and laser technologies to explore fabrication methods that leverage the clean, precise and selective nature of lasers at the scale of individual atoms. The development of this technology is crucial for the next generation of quantum device fabrication techniques and has great commercial potential. We are looking for a driven candidate with a strong background in experimental atomic physics and laser technologies. Among other tasks, the postdoc will be:

  • Calculating and simulating practical laser and light-matter interaction experiments.
  • Designing, building and operating ultra-high vacuum chambers and laser systems.
  • Designing and building electronics and automating operation.
  • Learning and operating characterization equipment e.g. STM, TEM, advanced laser systems.
  • Collaborating with other groups at NQCP/DTU and companies in Copenhagen e.g. nanofabrication group, Quantum Foundry, and the Danish Fundamental Metrology (DFM) Institute.
