Researcher responsible for implementation of the project at IPC PAS: dr Marcin TabakaWe seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences. The position is part of the consortium project entitled “Benchmarking Human Tissue Culture Systems that Mimic the Tumor Microenvironment”, financed by the NCN (National Science Centre). The consortium provides an international and interdisciplinary research environment with close links to tissue engineering, 3D cancer model systems, microfluidics, single-cell sequencing, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. The project involves transcriptomic profiling of Head & Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas (HNSCC) using in-house state-of-the-art microfluidic highthroughput single-cell sequencing methods. - Design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments including high-throughput single-cell RNA-seq profiling;
- Assess quality controls of NGS data generated in the project;
- Cooperate with the partners at Medical University of Lublin (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and University of Warsaw (Department of Biology);
- Participation in the research project and attendance at team meetings to share results;
- Prepare and write scientific papers for leading journals.
Specific RequirementsPhD degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Biomedicine, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related quantitative discipline obtained in the year of employment in the project or within 7 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project. For researchers with multiple PhDs, the date of the first PhD award is deemed the reference date. Extension might apply according to National Science Centre, Poland, rules).
- Additionally, the candidate for the postdoctoral position must meet the following condition:
- they did not have the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation.
- their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree
- Solid knowledge and familiarity with techniques in genomics. Hands-on experience in single-cell profiling methods is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with Next Generation Sequencing
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for analysis of genomics datasets

The offer is for 6 months with a possible extension.The job in the exciting interdisciplinary project, realized in a collaboration with Prof. Matthias Nees, dr Adolfo Rivero-Muller from the Medical University of Lublin and dr Tomasz Kaminski from University of Warsaw. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for short scientific visits in the group of our collaborators in UMLub and UW, as well as participation in seminars and international conferences.The successful candidate will be eligible for all programs at the IPC PAS, including the IPC PAS Young Scientists competition and the IPC PAS Young Scientists Mobility competition.Institute provides an opportunity to participate in ERASMUS+ programme.Eligibility criteriaThe successful candidate for the postdoctoral position shall, for the full term of their employment within the project, be obligated to maintain compliance with the following conditions:
- their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree;
- at the time of receiving remuneration, they will not be receiving any other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs
- they did not have the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation;
- in the period of receiving the remuneration they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with registered office outside of Poland
A post-doc type post is a full-time post, scheduled by the project’s principal investigator for a person who has been conferred a PhD degree in the year of employment in the project or within 7 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project (for researchers with multiple PhDs, the date of the first PhD award is deemed the reference date). This period may be extended by a time of long-term (in excess of 90 days) documented sick leaves or rehabilitation leaves granted on account of being unfit to work. In addition, the period may be extended by the number of months of a child care leave granted pursuant to the Labour Code and in the case of women, by 18 months for every child born or adopted, whichever manner of accounting for career breaks is preferable.Selection processThe Commission will take into account the following criteria and evaluate applications on a point scale:
- Competence for specific tasks in a research project;
- Previous scientific achievements (publication record);
- References;
- Candidate’s own initiative in research projects
