Within the Population Data Science group at Swansea University Medical School is the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank , a world-leading resource for conducting population health research, holding billions of records from various data sources covering the Welsh population. An interdisciplinary workforce in the Data Science Building is involved with various major projects and research programmes, conducting various methodological and applied skills across various disciplines to support and achieve our world-leading innovations. Some of these skills include but are not limited to software development, database development and management, epidemiology, Geographical Information Systems, statistics, data mining, data visualisation, infrastructure-related projects, website development, training and end-user support, project management and more.

This summer internship program offers a 3 month paid position to students interested in gaining experience within a real-world environment, developing and applying their skills in this highly secure, state of the art environment. It is a great opportunity to develop your skills working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to enhance your experience using the latest technology to assist you on your path to further employment. We are looking for people who can work well as part of a team whilst being responsible for their work and are interested in contributing to delivering a measurable output within their internship.

This internship is open to all degree programs at Swansea University or elsewhere. It will be especially relevant for students from disciplines who have the skills and expertise listed above. Experience in line with the Summer Intern Brochure Intern project IDs (see specific skills and suitable background is identified alongside each Intern Project ID).

Please note there is no funding available in addition to the salary to cover accommodation or travel costs.

Internships are offered on a full-time basis which is a standard 35-hour working week, but there is some flexibility where appropriate.

Students on a tier 4 visa are limited to working 20 hours per week, and Masters students 20 hours per week.
