    Job Overview

A Physical Therapy Assistant is needed to provide care to treat and support the treatment of the patients of the 31st Medical Group, Aviano Medical Treatment Facility.

 

Qualifications

  • Education and Certification: An associate’s degree from an accredited PTA program at a technical or community college, college, or university. The only recognized accrediting agency for PTA education is the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Graduates must pass the national examination from the Federation State Boards of Physical Therapy Examination and must hold an active state license in good standing

  • Current Basic Life Support certification.

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience within the realm of sports or orthopedics with primary time having been completed in an outpatient healthcare setting. With 2 years of experience in the last 5 years.

  • Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledgeable in medical privacy and confidentiality (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards of Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and The Joint Commission (TJC).

  • Proficiency in computer applications/software to include Microsoft Office programs, MS Outlook (e-mail), and internet familiarity.

  • Able to read, understand, speak, and write English fluently.

  • Be skillful and tactful in communicating with people who may be physically or mentally ill, uncooperative, fearful, emotionally distraught, and occasionally dangerous.

  • Possess organization, problem-solving and communication skills to articulate medical requirements to patients, families/caregivers, medical and non-medical staff in a professional and courteous way.

     

    Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Administer patient care activities in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and orthotic services. Implement treatment plans and coordinate activities to ensure efficient and effective programs associated with patient care delivery programs.

  • Plan, implement, and manage physical therapy, occupational therapy, and orthotic services.

  • Maintain high care standards and ethical conduct while working as part of a patient care team

  • Participate in planning, providing and evaluating patient care interventions.

  • Utilize therapeutic principles to restore function and support activities of daily living.

  • Fabricate splints and aid devices to protect or assist patient in achieving optimal independent physical function.

  • Gather and document performance data.

  • Observe, record, and report patient responses to treatment.

  • Assist therapist with evaluations, tests, measurements, and procedures.

  • Coordinate and delegate appropriate therapeutic exercise and physical therapy interventions to active duty physical medicine/therapy technicians.

  • Ensure patient privacy is respected and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.

  • Perform work assignments in compliance with instructions, policies, or accepted practices of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), The Joint Commission (TJC), and local facility.

  • Maintain caseload and case mix productivity standards as defined by local policy, and ensures access to care is within Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) standards.

  • Treat patient appropriate to diagnosis and age.

  • Perform ongoing assessment of patient’s physical and functional status including administering required measurements; including manual muscle test, goniometry, functional independence measures, circumferential measurements, and vital signs.

  • Determine when a patient appears to have attained established goals or has achieved maximum benefit from current treatment program and consult with the physical therapist or Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) regarding termination of treatment.

  • Coordinate care with other members of the staff and network providers. Facilitate, procure, fit, instruct, and establish use of adaptive equipment, advanced orthoses and braces, and other therapeutic devices as needed. Monitor the safety of equipment and place appropriate work-orders for repair. Additionally, monitor the cleanliness and upkeep of rehabilitation equipment within the rehabilitation space.

  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures when working within any 31 MDG facility either alone or with other 31 MDG personnel in assistance, ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

  • Perform daily care and routine cleaning of rehabilitation equipment.
