about the roleYour role is to study of quality of experience in relation to the quality of home Wi-Fi networks.With the deployment of FTTH (XGS-PON deployed in France), Orange Livebox7 provides residential offers up to 8 Gbps (downstream). Wi-Fi is now becoming the critical link for network quality. With more than 80% of terminals connected via Wi-Fi in home networks, the quality of Wi-Fi experience becomes essential for the satisfaction of residential customers. Today, many Wi-Fi indicators are collected for the analysis of Quality of Service (QoS) in networks, but very few exist to indicate the Quality of Experience (QoE) perceived by customers.Some QoE models are published by the ITU-T [1], a study to predict QoE based on Wi-Fi quality [2] was done in 2018. Since then, many new services have been used by customers as well as the new Wi-Fi technologies. Research subjects related to QoE appear also in scientific publications and in standardization organizations [3-6].This PhD focuses on two axes:– Study QoE models for new services that are sensitive to latency and jitter.– Analyze the impact of QoE based on Wi-Fi conditions and correlate the QoE score with physical Wi-Fi parameters to finally improve it.Scientific objectives:The objective of the thesis is to develop QoE prediction models based either on a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) or more simply on some indicator thresholds in domestic local networks. These models will allow us to build a QoE score from the low-level network parameters (i.e. Wi-Fi) that operator can easily collect.With the help of the predicted QoE, we plan to diagnose and improve pain situations among residential customers. In addition, having a vision of the QoE according to service also allows us to know if it is possible to reduce energy consumption (power reduction, band extinction, etc.) without degrading the perceived quality.The obstacles to be lifted:– Automate the collection of indicators/logs from network and service-based applications for detailed QoE analyses.– Define and train a QoE model (i.e. MOS score).– Master data processing, analyze the collected data and study the correlation between the QoE score and Wi-Fi parameters if exists.– Develop algorithms to improve the quality of experience with home Wi-Fi.Expected results:– Setting up the test bed in the laboratory.– Contribution to intellectual property and international scientific publication.– Contribution to standardization (ITU-T, ETSI, IEEE, etc.)– Transfer of know-how (databases, algorithms and scripts) for Orange Innovation “Service à la maison”.
