Job description

Offer DescriptionDo you want to transform your energy in a positive impact on the environment & the society?Do you want to contribute to the design of next generation nonlinear RadioFrequency sensors? Are you seeking an international-level job, with top notch facilities and connections within both industry and academia?Join the French consortium on sustainable building & structure monitoring, and pursue your PhD at the University of Bordeaux !Human engineering has generated marvelous inventions, buildings and apparatus. But, in the past, short-term profits have often been prioritized over long-term benefits, with consequences on the future of mankind. This can be changed radically by integrating wireless, zero-power real-time monitoring/diagnostics technology into structures and systems that can detect, locate and characterize damage that may occur during service. With this game changing technique, their operational life can be significantly extended, thus reducing their overall energy cost and CO2 impact. While monitoring/diagnostics technologies are well known and have been used for some time, the true revolution would be to fabricate a wire-less sensor with infinite operation time. To meet the constraints of reliability, ATEX compatibility (EXplosive ATmosphere) and mass production, the w-SHM project will develop a radio wave connection technology between the sensor and the signal digitizer, while maintaining measurement sensitivity and system cost. It will equip the sensor with a wireless transponder, capable of both pre-amplification and wireless multiplexing of the signal. The circuit proposed by the w-SHM project will encapsulate the low-frequency acoustic signal in a GHz electromagnetic signal, while consuming zero net power (remote power supply). A demonstrator will be developed for hydrogen tank application (green hydrogen car and transportation) and draws on the combined expertise of the IMS and I2M laboratories at the University of Bordeaux.

  • Develop the technology that will be found in next generation industry
  • Develop your career and network through collaborations and participation to premier meetings and conference with the worldwide research community
  • Teaching opportunities : expand your academic impact with possible teaching at Univ. Bordeaux and Bordeaux Institute of Technology
