PhD Stipend in the role of housing tenure in spatial planning for desegregation
Aalborg Universitet
At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Sustainability and Planning, a PhD stipend is available within the general study programme Planning and Development. The stipend is open for appointment from 1 September or soon hereafter. The Department of Sustainability and Planning conducts research and teaching on development and planning in a broad sense, including social science aspects as well as more technical aspects of development, and with a focus on environmental, international as well as administrative dimensions.JobbeskrivelseThe PhD project will center on developing a deep understanding of the approach to spatial planning in neighborhoods labeled‘parallel societies’ in the Danish non-profit-housing legislation. Primary focus will be given to the concept of‘mixed housing tenure’ as a tool to desegregate. There is a need for scientific investigation to better define the concept of segregation in a Danish context. This will create the basis for investigating what the possibilities, limitations and potential unintended consequences of the planning and regulation efforts using mixed tenure entail. The project will also seek inspiration internationally to suggest models for neighborhood stability and quality of life that considers ownership in its broadest possible definition, from a‘sense of ownership through place attachment’ to‘owner-occupancy of individual housing units’.The ideal candidate for this project has good academic qualifications, strong self-motivation, and a true interest in research informing the field of Planning and Land Management. The candidate should ideally have a background as surveyor(cand.geom) with planning and legal specialization or closely related background. Key requisites for the position, are also the capacity to plan and work autonomously. Documented experience with any study project within planning for and with segregated areas and/or housing tenure policy research is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Danish is a requirement, due to the nature of the empirical data collection, including interviews, review and analysis of Danish legislation and the facilitation of focus groups/participant observation. The candidate will be associated with the research group Land Management& Governance and will have base in Copenhagen.
