Job description

Offer DescriptionDo you want to be involved in the green energy transition? Do you wish to contribute to the development of advanced technologies for next generation of very large and flexible offshore wind turbine rotors and are you looking for a career in R&D or academia? Then we have a great opportunity! We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled candidate to join us as PhD student. We offer a multidisciplinary, international, and friendly atmosphere, encouraging creativity and teamwork. You will have a great opportunity to build strong networks with internationally known researchers at DTU and other universities as well as industrial partners. This project is a part of the NEXTgenT (NEXT generation of over 25MW offshore wind Turbine rotor design) MSCA Doctoral Network (DN). The overall objective of the NEXTgenT training network is to educate a new generation of researchers capable of converting their new knowledge of atmospheric science and wind turbine technologies into the development of the next generation of 25+MW offshore wind turbine rotor systems. You will work closely together with another 10 PhD students under the NEXTgenT MSCA DN.You will be affiliated with the Section on Aero and Fluid Dynamics (AFD) in the Division of Wind Turbine Design. We work closely with experts from all across the department to improve wind turbine aerodynamics.Responsibilities
You are a committed individual with a strong engineering background. You possess a profound passion for modeling and analyzing the effect of VGs on wind turbine blades and airfoils. Fueled by your curiosity, you will embark on a journey to research the complex interaction between VGs and flow past dedicated wind turbine airfoils. Your drive for self-guided exploration propels you to continually push boundaries, aspiring to redefine the limits of what is achievable today, all in pursuit of a more promising and sustainable tomorrow. Key project elements are:

  • Evaluate numerically different low drag VG designs
  • Optimise their spanwise spacing and chordwise position
  • Validate the designs using wind tunnels.

A detailed project plan will be developed with the supervisors within the first months after enrolment.Qualifications
