Job Description:The section for Autonomous Materials Discovery (AMD) at DTU Energy is looking for an outstanding candidate for a PhD scholarship within the field of data analytics applied to energy materials and devices with a strong link to atomistic simulations for the materials of the future.Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate will break new ground in developing a data infrastructure able to work with multi-source, multi-fidelity curated data from multi-scale models, AI, and robotic experiments. Moreover, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of autonomous workflows integrating multi-scale simulations and robotics. These implementations will be general and will be applied to core technologies of the department, e.g., batteries and catalysts.The AMD section is a leading group in combining multiscale modelling techniques, machine learning methods, and self-driving laboratories to accelerate the discovery of novel materials for energy applications. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, which comprises, among others, experts with background in physics, chemistry, materials and computer science. The section comprises four PIs and approx. 25 between PhD students and postdocs.The candidate will work in collaboration with multiple national and Horizon Europe projects, which include: “Battery Interface Genome – Materials Acceleration Platform” (BIG-MAP, which seeks to reinvent the way we invent batteries); BATTERY 2030+ CSA3 (which aims at contributing to the definition of research data management standards and to develop an EU battery data landscape); “DE-centralised Cloud labs fOr inDustrialisation of Energy materials” (DECODE, aiming at the development of decentralized autonomous laboratories to discovery new green chemicals); and “Battery Cell Assembly Twin” (BatCAT, which focuses on creating digital twin for battery manufacturing that integrates data-driven and physics-based methods). Moreover, this project is strongly liked with CAPeX, the new “Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery” anchored at DTU Energy.A successful candidate:

  • has good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • is able to work independently and take responsibility for progress and quality of projects.
  • has a proved expertise in computational/theoretical physics, chemistry, materials science and related areas.
  • has a proved expertise in materials modelling is required.

You must have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree in physics, chemistry or engineering.Approval and Enrolment
