Offer DescriptionWe are looking for a full-time PhD student in cognitive science at Ghent University on reinforcement learning and cognitive control. The position is for four years (provided positive periodic evaluation). The salary is according to standard Belgian regulations for PhD students (around €2200 per month net salary).​ Candidates are expected to have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant domains such as Cognitive (Neuro)Science, Psychology, or other relevant disciplines. Applications will be considered until April 26th, 2024.Our lab, CoCoFlex, is part of the Department of Experimental Psychology at Ghent University, which hosts several research groups on cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience, creating a dynamic research environment including regular internal talk series as well as presentations by invited speakers. The working language is English. We have access to an HPC cluster, a research-dedicated 3-tesla MR scanner (Siemens Prisma), multiple EEG systems, TMS, and eye-tracking devices. Ghent itself is a vibrant and creative student city with a lot to offer.The project is funded by an FWO project on learning and cognitive control. In this project, we will mainly develop and test experimental paradigms and computational models to study the hierarchical learning of cognitive control parameters in a multi-learning environment, and the learning and training of cues for control. The main supervisor for this project will be Senne Braem. However, broader collaborations are also possible and encouraged. The starting date of this project is flexible, but preferably around October 2024. Expertise in computational modelling is not required, but a strong interest in cognitive science, modelling, data analysis, and computer programming are.
