Job description

Department of Social Sciences and Business, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as PhD of Social Studies from 1st of February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as PhD is limited to a period of 3 years.Social Studies
As a PhD student you will be associated with the research area Social Studies which is an interdisciplinary field of study based upon sociology, political science, anthropology, economics and sociology of law. Within this interdisciplinary field we aim to understand, analyze and explain today’s complex, social changes, that cannot be understood using more traditional approaches. We focus upon three main themes: Social change & justice; Welfare, institutions & inequality and Gender & diversity that to a certain extent crosscut the research groups in social Studies. Social studies include three research groups with the following research foci:Social Dynamics and Change: In the wake of the past decade’s economic crisis, the impact of neo-liberal forms of government, and the flow of immigrants and refugees the classic questions of social change and social dynamics have re-emerged as key issues on the academic, political and institutional agendas in Europe, calling for a revitalisation of the problems of social justice, redistribution, recognition, inclusion and stigmatisation, and of critical engagement and forms of democratic action and participation. Please see:Changing Societies: Welfare and Diversity: Using the Danish model as its basis, the group works with local, European and global perspectives of welfare. The Danish welfare model and policies in primarily the social and labour market area are analysed in the light of national change and history and in the light of a Nordic, a broader European and global impact. The group’s work is focused on four cross-cutting dimensions: diversity and equality, labour market and welfare, work and care and, finally, marketisation and partnerships. Please see:Crossroads of Care and social reproduction: We focus upon social reproduction and care (its embodied, cognitive and emotional elements) empirically and theoretically. The group seeks to offer an interdisciplinary platform for discussing ongoing and new research about institutions and regulations of care, identities of care and care as work. Please see:The Doctoral School
