The Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS in Halle (Saale) is a methodologically oriented Fraunhofer Institute in the material sciences and materials engineering disciplines. The work of the Fraunhofer IMWS is aimed at identifying defects and weakpoints in materials, components and systems on the micro- and nanoscale, to clarify their cause and to offer clients solutions based on the outcomes.
For our Team »Non-Destructive Defect Localization« we offer you as research associate the possibility for phd thesis in »3D-sensitive quantum microscopy for the detection and visualization of weak magnetic fields«.
What you will do
- Familiarization with the topic of the detection of magnetic fields and the non-destructive microscopic visualization of current paths
- Conception, design and construction of a quantum optical measuring station for the detection of magnetic fields and the determination of field strengths
- Conduction of research for the expandability of the measurement concept to increase sensitivity in terms of signal-to-noise ratio
- Design and development of suitable software modules for control and data acquisition, as well as for evaluation and current path correlation
- Evaluation of the measurement concept and determination of the limits in resolution and sensitivity
- Publication of results in relevant journals and presentation at professional conferences
- Support in the development and processing of new research topics and service orders as well as targeted project and customer acquisition
What you bring to the table
