Job description

Offer DescriptionThe PhD student will work in two laboratories: LISA in Créteil and CRC-LRMH in Champs-sur-Marne. He/she will be required to travel to restoration sites and workshops. The proposed PhD topic is part of the ANRJCJC ‘ENBRUNI’ project (call 2023) led by CRC-LRMH (Ministry of Culture/CNRS) in association with LISA (UPEC/CNRS), ArScAn (Université Paris 8/CNRS) and IRAMAT Centre Ernest Babelon (CNRS). Its aim is to contribute to the understanding of the dark-red staining phenomenon of lead used in historical monuments buildings. The PhD student will be working on two main research focuses:
– In-depth assessment of the onset of browning:
The aim of this project is to draw up an inventory of French monuments affected by dark-red staining of lead, to assess the period of appearance of the phenomenon and to determine its rate of spread. Using archival data, the aim is to compare the evolution of dark-red staining with the materiality of lead, according to its use, with the history of the main national buildings, and to determine whether there is any correlation between its reactivity and the environmental changes during the last thirty years.
– Determining staining of lead mechanisms :
Some parameters can influence the formation of dark-red staining and its rate of formation. Environmental modification, and more specifically changes in the concentration of certain atmospheric pollutants (O3, SO2, NO2), can have an impact on the thermodynamics of the plattnerite formation mechanism. The aim is to characterize the various physico-chemical stages in the formation of plattnerite, and to assess the contribution of the influential parameters identified for each of them, based in particular on aging tests in climatic chambers.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsResearch Field Chemistry Education Level Master Degree or equivalentResearch Field Physics Education Level Master Degree or equivalentResearch Field Technology Education Level Master Degree or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Chemistry Years of Research Experience NoneResearch Field Physics Years of Research Experience NoneResearch Field Technology Years of Research Experience NoneAdditional InformationAdditional commentsThe PhD will be directed by Anne Chabas (LISA) and supervised by Aurélia Azéma (CRC-LRMH) and Aline Petitmangin (LISA).
